STUDENT LIBRARY CARRELS
are assigned to doctoral, masters, and thesis students who are actively in the process of writing dissertations and theses. Students requesting carrels are required to have the written approval of their College/Division advisor before a carrel can be assigned. Library carrel application forms are available in the Library Administration Office, Room 201, Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. These forms are available the first day of Fall Semester classes and are assigned on a full-year basis.  If you plan to write your thesis during the Spring Semester, please request a carrel at the beginning of the Fall Semester.  There are currently 120 carrels available for student use.  Non-thesis students may request a carrel, and if available, they will be assigned at the end of September.  Because carrels are at a premium, we ask that you not request a carrel unless you fully intend to use it.

Food and uncovered drinks are not permitted in the carrels and, if found, will automatically result in revocation of carrel privileges. Moving, damaging, renumbering, defacing, or otherwise changing carrels may result in having carrel privileges revoked.  Failure to check out library materials placed in the carrel or to follow due dates for library or Inter- Library Loan materials will result in the loss of  carrel privileges as well as other penalties. Please return all non-circulating materials such as reference books and periodicals to a book truck for re-shelving when you leave your carrel and the library.

FACULTY LIBRARY CARRELS are assigned to full-time Sarasota campus faculty. These locked carrels are few in number and are in high demand making a waiting list an unfortunate necessity. The faculty member to whom the carrel is assigned is responsible for the proper use of the carrel and must comply with library policies and all fire safety regulations.
