HOW TO RENEW: Renewals may be requested in person or electronically via
Cook Library Catalog for material from Jane Bancroft Cook Library, or via
USF Libraries for other materials. Materials already requested by another patron may not be renewed. Please note: Electronic renewal is a service enhancement that patrons must use responsibly. Be sure that electronic renewals are processed successfully. Retain copies of renewal transactions for your records. In the event of an error, these records are necessary to document fine adjustments. If any doubts exist, come to the library and process renewals in person.
HOW TO OBTAIN COOK LIBRARY MATERIALS THAT ARE CHECKED OUT OR MISSING: When material identified in Cook Library Catalog is not on the shelf, patrons may request a
RECALL on a book checked out for over 14 days. Complete a
Missing Item Form for a book or journal that is not checked out but cannot be found. When the book is located or returned, a notice will be sent to the requestor and the book will be held for pickup at the Circulation Desk.
HOW TO OBTAIN AN I.D. Photo ID's, which are issued to all tuition-paying students, are coded for use as your library card, and are paid for and produced in the Business Office (in PMD 123). Senior Citizens who are auditing classes free-of-charge should obtain a Library Courtesy Card (no charge) from the Library Administrative Office (Room 201) to use for borrowing materials. Library Courtesy Cards issued to auditing students are valid only for the semester issued and proof of audit is necessary before the card can be issued. If a photo ID is also desired, it may be obtained from the Business office for a fee, but the Library Courtesy Card is the only one that auditing students may use to check out materials.
WHAT MATERIALS MAY BE CHECKED OUT:
The circulating collection on the second floor, including the juvenile and oversize books may be checked out. On the first floor, only the Florida and U.S. government documents may be checked out. Reference books and periodicals do not circulate. hMedia items, available from the Circulation Desk, circulate for three days.
HOW TO RETURN MATERIALS:
- Books should be returned in the BOOK DROP at the Circulation Desk. Also, for your convenience, there is a Book Depository outside the back door of the library, available 24 hours a day.
- Media items must be returned to directly to the Circulation Desk, not to another location.
- Interlibrary Loan books must be handed to a staff member at the Circulation Desk.
FINES: The fine for overdue library books and media items is 25 cents per day per item, beginning the day following the due date. The fine will increase by 25 cents per item for each day to a maximum of $10.00. Overdue items should be returned to the Circulation Desk and a fine slip should be requested. The fine should be paid at the Cashier’s Office and the fine receipt returned to the Circulation Desk so that the fine can be cleared from the Library’s computer system. After one month, book replacement charges will be billed through the Department of Finance & Accounting and must be paid at the Cashier's office.
CLAIMS RETURNED: Patrons may only receive relief from fines and bills on material they claim to have returned but that are not found in the Library one time and at the discretion of the Library Supervisor. Use the
Claims Returned Form to make this request online.
LOST MATERIAL: Lost items should be reported to the Circulation Desk. After one month, the library will begin the billing process. The patron will be billed $100.00 plus the amount of the overdue fine, if any. Should the book be found, a credit will be issued for the price of the book. The fine is not refundable. If a book is not reported lost, the fine will accumulate at 25 cents per day until the maximum fine of $10.00 is reached. The book will then be declared lost and the patron billed for the price of the book and the $10.00 overdue fine, plus a $5.00 processing fee. ANYONE OWING $20.00 OR MORE WILL BE BLOCKED FROM FURTHER BORROWING until the fine has been paid.
To protect the reading privacy of library patrons, names of individuals or details concerning the materials they may have checked out is privileged information and not available to the public.
